I might have found the strangest aviation footage of all time…

Note: this is a REAL story…

It’s late at night on February 15th, 1996 at the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in China. A Long March 3B rocket is being prepared to launch Intelsat 708 into space. As the rocket launches from the ground, after only 2 seconds, it banks sharply to the left and heads straight for the ground. It proceeds to slam into the ground killing a minimum of six people and a maximum of 3000 people. Here it is on launch:
Around 2019, YouTube user named “Fred V” published a never-before-seen 22 minute video taken from an OFFICIAL INTELSAT tape containing the launch, crash, wreckage, and a VERY uncanny section of a woman calling herself “Janet Shipp”. I can’t really go into much more detail about it because you can’t really comprehend it in words; you just have to watch it yourself. I highly recommend watching the whole video from start to finish.
Here it is: Intelsat 708 Footage

the tape comes from SS/L. some guy named "moldfucker420" apparently contacted fred for the original digitized video and he found out that the tape also contained the globalstar launch footage uploaded separately. also janett ship has since left intelsat and works for a different company. saying this from a guy who's been investigating this thing for about a year and has found some more footage of it over the time

@Bigolfishboy that video exists as sort of a documentation of the event, most likely for archival purposes. fred, from what i've read, works or had worked at SS/L and thats how he acquired the tape. and yes, i'll consider checking out this community

@himba I’m assuming you googled about Intelsat 708 and found this and made an account to just comment lol. On the more serious side, I find it very helpful to have someone else who also has been investigating this for a while. I seem to have found roughly the same information as you have. The one thing that I have failed to understand is why that strange video exists. Do you have any idea? I just compressed the main parts into a short, somewhat easy-to-understand post since some of the people on here (including myself) are not hmmm, how do I say this; not the most intelligent life forms
Thanks for providing more information on this :) I’m way too busy with my personal stuff to give more info myself.
Also, maybe (long shot) you might be interested in SimplePlanes and the community here! It’s really tight-knit and fun in this small corner of the internet!

@Graingy Interesting… Aside from that, have you watched the video and if so, what do you think about it?

The rocket made a very sudden career choice into the military, becoming a missile.
Unfortunately, like many major mid-course decisions, it would have consequences.
In this case, the rocket - now missile - failed to realise that it wasn't being launched from the Vatican City.
