Mark's dumpster ep.2

16.9k MarkTheDesignGuy  yesterday

Welcome back, everyone!
Here's the second post for this series. In case y'all don't remember what this is about, here's a little refresher.

So here we go, another 5 unfinished saves from my painfully long list of saved crafts (seriously, I probably have like 300 planes in there ☠️)

-R.A.-Xliner

So, back in mid to late 2020, I and @XAircraftManifacturer consistently checked out each other's posts. So one day, he posted an unfinished version of one of his X-liner aircraft, saying he didn't like how it was turning out. I decided instead to use his free-to-use design to create a hybrid craft. Just as a way for me to show appreciation for his work, I would tweak the design, adding one of my most recent propeller engines to make this plane, personally calling it "R.A. X".
The thing is, there was a reason why he abandoned this design. He started quickly improving his building techniques, and so did I. So yeah, this thing ended up collecting dust among my other abandoned projects.

-Prop based VTOL

Picture this. It's lockdown season. A young Mark is sitting in front of his computer, trying desperately to make a VTOL aircraft work. But using the in-game VTOL engines was too easy for him, apparently. He wanted to make a VTOL propeller aircraft. Just 1 problem, he has 0 knowledge of how to operate the gyroscope part. So 2 to 3 hours of work pass, trying to make this thing work by just balancing all forces passively, before it inevitably ends up in the "I will definitely work on this bro, I swear" list of projects. Flash forward to a couple of months ago, and I actually know how to operate a gyroscope, so this finally became a fully functioning aircraft!....
With absolutely 0 purpose other than existing, so there it is.

-A.A.F 1 and -Microfighter2

Finally, revealing part of my most lengthy project of all time. The A.A.F. 1 project. Started in 2020, it had 1 simple objective. Create a massive airborne aircraft carrier!
Now I sketched several plans for this, and today I still won't say the idea isn't still buzzing in my head. But I just want to start showing the earliest attempts at this. Now there are 2 kinds of airborne aircraft carriers in this game, what I call "the accurate" type and the "by definition" type. The first replicates how a real airborne aircraft carrier would work, with a complex system that allows launch and recovery of the fighters. The other is more "passive", as in making a runway capable of flying where small SP planes can land.
I didn't want to jump to the second system since I found it a little lazy at the time, plus, I didn't want to make a plane so large that it couldn't land on certain SP airports (as I would do later on ;) ). So my approach was to make a plane with a fuselage shape made to accommodate at least 2 small fighters.
So I built the carrier, I built the fighter, only to realize.... "How am I going to test this thing?"
Yeah, me not having SP multiplayer and not really having the FT experience to make a plane that could release other planes made me dread the idea of testing this. Also, the aircraft I built weren't quite good enough, as you will see if you decide to fly them. The carrier is heavy and underpowered, making it a hustle to fly, while the microfighter is too unstable to even think about attempting a docking procedure.
So as 2021 rolled on, I decided to quit on these designs and work on something that could rely on my first posted fighter jet, the M.A. 4. (which also didn't quite work out, but that's a story for another day....)

To close things off... do I have to explain this one?...
