Simpleplanes Stock planes: A history of Simpleplanes Volume 3

19.6k StockPlanesRemastered  13 hours ago

For Update 1.3: Simpleplanes comes to steam, making acquisition of the game much easier for pc customers. Between the beginning of the 1.3 era and the beginning of 1.4, Many new parts and feature would be implemented. We got two new islands with easter eggs and hazards. We also got Racing and Combat challenges. We got weapons, and Free flight AI. 1.3 was one of the biggest updates to come to Simpleplanes. It took over a year to implement and we got many new stock planes.

The P-51 Would return, sporting new construction and a new paint job. however its general layout would remain the same as its predecessor, and it would stay a decent training aircraft,
Trivia
-The P-51 on Jundroo's page never received an xml update. Thus the link provided leads to a different upload.

The KickingFish would return, unchanged. It Still resembled an amoligation of the F-16 and its cousins.

The TwinProp Would return. This time featuring a duel Pusher Turboshaft layout and swept tail wings that was reminiscent of the Piaggio P.180 Avanti. It's engines however, were balled out to 3000hp, gave it a top speed of 350 mph.
Trivia
-The Twinprop on Jundroo's page never got an updated xml, so you can still get the 1.2 version. The only difference between the two is the shape of the engine nacelles and what engines are attached, and tail wing sweep- each wing being swept back one notch making conversion super simple.
-At some point a nose camera was added to the stock plane. This may have been an easter egg to small, twin engine planes being used as camera planes for aviation movies such as Top Gun and American Made.

We got a new TutorialPlane. While still being built by blocks, it now had a completely different shape.
Trivia: There is two hidden planes in the files called designerTutorial1 which is an exact copy of the Tutorial plane, and designerTutorial2. The latter had a few secret bells and whistles, being buffed engine power, and 5-blade props in the place of the formers 3-blade props. Both spawn automatically under the name Tutorial Plane but the latter has a 50 % chance (and I mean every other time it spawns) of spawning in aggressive (kamikaze) mode. It is one of 3 craft that do this.

The Vertigo Would return, unchanged from 1.2. It would still resemble a twin engine harrier.

The Seaplane Would also return unchanged from 1.2

The Bushplane would also return, unchanged from 1.2.

The LittleBugger Would make its debut to showcase the car engine and wheels. Based off of a massive RC car, it gave us our first car driving experience in simpleplanes. Although fun to drive, it was very unstable.
Trivia
-The little bugger was twice the size of a most real dune buggy's at 14 feet wide and 23 feet long. The only production Sand car that comes close is the Funco F9.

Our first Hellicopter, The Gator2 by weebabyseamus would debut late in the 1.3 era, featuring new parts. Rotors, a new gyro, and winch and magnet. resembling the Bell UH-1 Huey, It gave us our first taste of simple to build helicopters.
Trivia
-The Bell UH-1 was flown by Andrew Garrison's father in Vietnam in 1969. His call sign...

... The Pigpen. Named after him, This fighter jet resembled the JAS-39 Gripen. Featuring a gun and 8 missiles, and one extra hard point, This cranked delta - canard jet is the best for jet combat with a top speed of over 1000mph.
Trivia
-The Pigpen has a blue tail fin. This could be a nod to the fact that most equipped squadrons that fly the Jas-39 Gripen paint the tails of the squad commanders aircraft.

The Quadcopter was introduced early in the 1.3 era... featuring 4 standard prop engines and a gyro for control and stability. it pretty much resembled a giant rc quadcopter... although since then a piloted one has been built, featuring tiltrotors.
Trivia
-The quadcopter was introduced to showcase the gyro
-The quadcopter was never added to Jundroo's page, and noone really knows where it came from.
-Attempts have been made to upload unedited versions to the site, but have been removed despite not being reported. I myself uploaded an unlisted version and it to was taken down.

The Jackhammer by EternalDarkness, would make its debut as a showcase for the new Cannon. It also happened to be a decent offroad platform. Based on the Iveco ACV 1, it features a large cannon.

The F-18 would be replaced by the Wasp. a twin engine, twin tail design that still very much resembled the F-18, this time though it rocked 13 hardpoints and a mix of weapons making it ideal for the bomber escort mission.
Trivia
-despite being a jet combat aircraft, the Wasp featured a conventional elevator equipped horizontal stabilizer.
-an extra set of inlets could be clipped in, rotated at 90 degrees, to give it the iconic trapezoidal inlet look.

The Hellkeska would make its debut. It featured 9 hardpoints, swing wings, and two engines. It's top out was 100 mph faster than the other armed jets making it the second fastest in the game. It's pointed up nose and wing tips completed the Sukhoi SU-24 look, and it was the best aircraft for the bridge destruction mission.
Trivia
-It's swing wings were actually non functional due to the drag model of the game. in fact, when swept, air hit the wing roots broadside, slowing the aircraft.
-when autopilot was engaged, the wings would sweep to center.
-The wings could also be swept FORWARD.
-Like the Wasp and Kicking Fish, it had a conventional tail.

We also got several hidden aircraft. these served as Opponent aircraft for racing and combat missions.

BlueCow
Bomber
Drone
Escort Enemy
Enemy WWII
Enemy WWII ALT
Opponent Slow
Opponent Fast
Opponent Speedy

The Glidey Or Opponent Glider uploaded here by DanDaFreakinMan Is a hidden racing Opponent in the game, featured in Eagle Pass and Featherfall Squall. Why this was hidden is anyone's guess... Most likely to force the player to get creative when building a glider for those races. It very strongly resembled the Start Und Flug H-101 Salto, albeit at 2x the length and wingspan.
