What I mean is, should they be ported (exactly as they are in SimplePlanes) as an easter egg/side area that can be discovered some distance away from the main islands?
Personally I think they should be for several reasons:
1: They already exist. It'd be additional content for next to no extra development cost, unless there's some compatibility issue blocking that for some reason. Take the islands, stick them someplace far away, boom, more places to fly.
2: It'd give a sense of familiarity to SimplePlanes 2. We've spent years jumping around the Garrison Isles (as I call them), so being able to keep doing that will provide connection which I personally believe SimplePlanes 2 kind of lacks, especially in the scale department; knowing how big SimplePlanes 2 is vs. SimplePlanes would be very grounding, I feel.
3: For new players it'd help reinforce the importance of SimplePlanes's history by letting them experience it themselves (sort of). I find it vitally important for SimplePlanes's existing culture to not be overwritten by a potential influx of new players, and preserving more older assets would be a great way to remind people of that history.
4: Assuming that the entire SimplePlanes 2 map is visible from high altitude in the demo, it looks kinda... small. And short. Unless I'm wrong about this, which I hope I am (edit: I am, fortunately), the increased land area and verticality from the rather, er, extreme older terrain would provide some much-needed variety.
I don't know if any of you feel the same way, but I think it'd be a huge missed opportunity to not include the old islands as a distant, but still present, part of SimplePlanes 2.
How do you feel about this?
@Graingy
Alright then
@TheRLAF No idea.
@Graingy
New ones
@TheRLAF You mean SP1 islands or new islands?
@Graingy
Alright, fine
But think
How would they make it work?
Would they put a bunch of islands with the same fullness as the main one?
Would they split it into a bunch of small ones?
Would they keep the hog one and add small ones around it like a ring of sorts?
@TheRLAF If people were willing to give up SP's features that easily they'd just play Juno.
Clearly, people want SP.
A major pain in the ass during the demo was that large planes just didn't work; they'd run out of space instantly.
Large planes need space to work as intended.
@Graingy
Ok, that's fair
But
If you want to sit and wait for a really long time for your craft to get somewhere, play a rocket game
@TheRLAF Seeing as the game now has highways and rails (though yet to be seen if they'll be player-usable), having long distance flights is practically an obligation.
Getting railways before a major part of aviation (still the focus of the game) would be utterly ridiculous.
I suppose it can be argued that since SP islands would be a bonus, not a main feature, that probably wouldn't be the implementation (which is to say, it should not be used as a means to include any new area of gameplay), but it would be nice as an extra destination.
To put another way, if SP2 had no racetracks (again, hypothetically), adding Sky Park and using it to say "there, there's racetracks now" would be improper. Instead they'd be bonuses over SP2-exclusive content - strictly bonuses.
@Graingy
Might just be me with my ADHD 2 picosecond attention span
But I don't really find that point interesting
SP being pure islands has always been a weakness of its.
Past that it's just an endless void of ocean until you run out of fuel or hit integer limits.
@TheRLAF But where's the fun in that? Why not give the option to fly across the ocean to the old lands?
@Graingy
That wasn't my main point
I more so meant having the original as a completely separate one that you could choose between the new one whenever you want
Like the mod sandbox maps in this game
@TheRLAF Why bother remaking?
The islands are too unrealistic to fit in with the others. No point in bothering, just throw them in as a throwback with next to no development costs. The more it'd cost them, the less likely they'd do it.
@Graingy
Y'know what?
Let's come to a middle ground
Andy and his team could do something like this:
They remake the legacy map (make the terrain more detailed and SP2 style I guess), add a few more enemies to blow up or something, and release it with the new map, so you could choose which one you wanted
Worst case they'd make it a
Gags
Ugh, a DLC
@TheRLAF And? SP1 craft will still work. There'll still be blocks in the game.
It's literally just more content. There's no downside to putting the old islands 750km out west (except a small increase in file size, but come on, that's nothing). Frankly it'd be nice to have some actually long range destinations rather than just endless ocean.
SP2 is supposed to be an improvement. SP1 is extremely old and should be able to be left behind - but that doesn't mean its assets are no longer valuable. Just secondary.
There are new accounts constantly. And keep in mind, this is SP1. If SP2 is a success then that'd be a major shakeup. There would be many more people coming in.
@Graingy
It's a new game tho
And the whole thing about culture/history being overriden by new players is kinda stupid, like they'll build stories/lore off the new map just like you guys did with this one
SP1 won't be deleted when 2 comes out, so if you want the culture/history, go play that
Maybe, they could add one of the islands
Just put wright or Krakabola somehwere off in the distance instead of the whole thing (which would presumably include Maywar, which is huge btw)
Also also
Would they polish the islands (terrain wise)
You said nothing about that in this forum, but they'd definitely have to make the islands cleaner and more realistic, which would definitely increase the size even more than it is/will be (but in for a penny in for a pound I guess)
Also not to harp on the new players thing but (as far as I've seen) SP is stupidly shut in compared to a lot of other communities
Like half of the users I talk to on here have been here for several years
@TheRLAF Why not?
They already exist and are familiar. No reason not to include them.
@Graingy
Ah yes, The base SP islands in SP2, how foolish of me
Yea they shouldn't be in SP2
It'd definitely be a little nostalgiabait-ey(?)
@TheRLAF What is this forum about.
@Graingy
What shouldn't need a mod
The FAF guardian?
Bc yes, and it doesn't
You can give an interceptor guardian stats and give it the guardian model with custom missling
@TheRLAF Shouldn't need a mod.
@Graingy
Mods do work for mobile
Just mainly map mods tho
And the fire and forget guardian
You just need to f♡ck around in the files a bit to get them into the game
@Graingy this isn't just an upvote bomb... it's an upvote nuke
@Graingy nah >:P >:)
@SilverTheDogfighter You are aware there are substantially less annoying ways to upvote bomb, right?
