MiG-21Bis WiP Screenshots

26.3k BRuthless  8.3 years ago

Hey, I'm currently working on a replica of the MiG-21Bis and wanted to show you some of my progress and ask for suggestions, opinions and everything else you can throw at me. :D Sadly it's probably a bit too small to fit a proper working cockpit in there. And also I didn't take the time to make the front and back ends more round through XML. I know that it is missing some things and the paintjob looks somewhat awful, it's not finished yet! :)

Here are some shots:

Feedback is appreciated! :)

@Quintasoarus Thanks! :) Do you know where I could get a set of numbers? I am sure someone has made numbers already, but I can't find anything with the search function. Would be more handy than making some myself. :D

Pretty much finished now. Just needs some more power through XML-editing, the gun, the fin under the turbine and maybe some more details. If my design is appreciated, I might even give camouflage a try. :D Here are some more goodies for you:

@MediocrePlanes Here is the current version with elevators, booster rockets, resized wings and resized rudder.

Nailed it! @Skua Nailed it! :) Putting structural panels or wings somewhere on there would also hurt the aesthetics I think.

@BRuthless you might already know this, but just incase you don't: intakes still work when hidden behind structural panels and wings. Not fuselage or engines, but it can still be helpful for hiding them

@Skua I also need intakes for the VTOL-engine, which I need to simulate the rocket boosters. Probably have to put them somewhere where they aren't that visible.

@BRuthless hmm, that is rather troublesome. I hope you can find a solution, it looks excellent

@MediocrePlanes Wow, looks very fine, though not completely scale. :D I've done some work on mine. Engines aren't getting enough air, elevators still missing and the russian stars look kinda awful, but here are some shots:

@Skua The J90 on the front really does well aesthetically, but doesn't suck much air because of the cone. :)

Considering I already made many, many MIG 21s, I don't think I need another one

Also here's the real thing. I think my rudder is a bit too high. What do you think?

@Quintasoarus I already nudged it pretty much. Smoother would be using fuselage pieces and defining the angle in the XML, so they form a pretty round inlet. @MediocrePlanes What exactly do you want to work on it? :D I hope you wouldn't steal it.

The Nudge feature on PC/Mac might be able to help you get the front smoothed out, but otherwise it's coming along well!

If you want you can send it to me and I can work on it...

@Skua But the cone will probably block it completely. I'll try that out anyways! Good idea. :)

@BRuthless looking good! I like what you've done with the intake on the front, but there may be an easier way - if the front of an engine is exposed, it actually also acts as an intake. You might be able to use a J90 for that
