what do you mean aromatic ginger?? all gingers are aromatic af????
which is my hypothesis(maybe theory? no..), if that's the correct word for this umm.. ah! assumption!! how can I forget that word
*ahem* anyway point is, I was trying out a recipe for Seblak(it's a food; shout out to my Indonesian homies) and it got me curious as to what's the English for "Kencur"
as it turns out, the first thing that came up was "aromatic ginger" ahaha... WHAT DO YOU MEAN AROMATIC GINGER!?? was my inner reaction to it
a little dive and the next name for it is already much better, which is "sand ginger" and it was.. much better.
like, imagine a conversation of "ah do you have aromatic/sand ginger" and tell me you wouldn't stump and ask if you heard that person ask for "aromatic ginger" as opposed to the opposite of "ah, I don't think we have sand ginger"
then it got bad again, the next name for it is... "lesser galangal"... OH, IM SORRY!???, LESSSEEERRR GALLAAANGALL!??? THE GAAAALLLLL(angal) TO SUGGEST ITS LESSER!?? IT PACKS MORE OOMPH IN ITS TINY FORM THAN WHATEVER GALANGAL HAS!!
then it becomes confusing, as in.. "zedoary".
I'm sorry, do you mean cassowary? no, zedoary.
anyway that has been my ramble for today, fascinating that now I know like, four names for it and can remember it on top of my head. probably has something to do with it having such a.. weird lineup of names.
I constantly misread the word "aromatic" as "aromantic", as in somebody not interested in romance, so I would probably think of an aromantic ginger person
@Monarchii and also wtf
@Monarchii nope
@StockPlanesRemastered brit's the exception tho right?
@Graingy yum
@StockPlanesRemastered does zedoary imply that it's as vicious as a cassowary
@Monarchii yes we are loyal to a fault.
@StockPlanesRemastered I am a rock.
@Graingy can't tell if you're living under a rock or just gaslighting.
@Monarchii Four soap?
@Monarchii Honestly i'm the one probably getting permabanned atp
@StockPlanesRemastered I have never once before heard anything of that sort.
@Graingy some people even got four!
the people I mean, right?
the root, not the people. but I assume most is a dear to be around
@StockPlanesRemastered on the plus side, ginger is warm and friendly and is great to have
@StockPlanesRemastered so do I get a pass or am I gonna get cancelled for referring to the actual aromatic ginger/zedoary?
@Monarchii it started because we were thought to be quick tempered (not a lie). Ang Ginger is a spicy herb.
@Graingy how dare you, I love soap
Lol I just realized I misread your headline.
Mods please don't come for me this is a learning moment for Monarchii as well as anyone else who reads this
Aeromatic Ginger is just another way to say stinky N* which as I previously stated is DEFINITELY a slur.
We can break it down by the word Aeromatic, which is another way of saying something stinks, and the word Ginger, which is a term for a human with red hair, green eyes and freckles.
"Gingers" wer formerly known as a subset of Caucasian, though shunned by the Caucasian comunity, but new research as late as the most recent decade has suggested that the genes that cause the traits in "Gingers" are actually caused by "Caucasian" and "Negro" genes clashing a generation or two after the mix, leading to "gingers" being accepted as P.O.C.
This has led to the term Ginger being recognized as an antigram for a particular word that starts with an N, ends in an R and will not be repeated further.
So in short, yes I double down, @Graingy and say it is a slur.
But I degress! Some of us wear it like a badge of honor such as yours truly.
@Monarchii Cilantro is evil
@Rb2h honestly it's the weirdest picture I have right now, I might not even be able to associate it with anything BUT aromantic now, it ruined my life
@Graingy oh good, monarchist.
@Solent do you hate cilantro
@StockPlanesRemastered why are red haired people called ginger anyway? it's like calling Indonesians.. shxt, I forgot what's the English word for sawo again. umm.... well idk where I'm going with this
