BAD AI FLYING???

12.9k poenix  8.2 years ago

It seems that when I see AI to AI fighting in simple planes I noticed something

  1. It's not smooth
It gets bouncy expesialy when it try's to fly straight it flips up and down somtimes sending itself into spins

2.it never uses throttle
It never controls it's own speed

  1. doesn't know it's own airspeed?
It seems it try's to turn even when at stall speed resulting at the begging of a dogfight may stall out instantly

Can a DEV please look at this and make the AI at least a little better.

my top 3 maneuverable planes (that can do loops in less than 3 seconds) attack mountains in dogfights instead of enemy planes, yeah that's it they ram the mountains like they don't have a chance

only jundroo builds fly well when used by AI (in dogfights, not sandbox spawning) andf add to that rare portion of random user planes, it is a fact, use your plane, press enter if you are using PC and you will find out that the autopilot tries so hard to keep the plane level (a human user would pitch up and down a little bit to make a balance, while the AI pitches up so fast and at the maximum angle for a long duration, which is countered with a pitch down that's fast and at maximum angle for a long duration, the result is, the AI keeps pitching up and down to balance the aircraft instead of pitching up or down when needed)

@Skua I've done that multiple times, and I've kep the same plane over multiple runs, and I swear instead of learning it gets dumber

@MrSev load up a different plane, run that, then start again with your original one. So far as I'm aware, it doesn't keep anything across play sessions. I may well be wrong about that, though.

@Skua I'm gonna call BS on the learning AI because I had a plane never crashed in a race running on AI, and now its gotten worse at flying. Is there any way to reset what it learned?

@Hadesrocks I basically just give myself free money and parts whenever I want by editing the game files(DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME, THE FILES HAVE SECURITY THAT WIPE YOUR PROGRESS IF YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING). I hate Free to Play games that turn into Pay2Win games through ridiculous grinding, and since BSC/WSC/NC qualify as P2W after the first few stages, I have absolutely zero moral objections to hacking in money in order to screw over the people that tried to screw me.

Any tips for the money grind? I have pretty good ship, it can beat all the levels, but i need more money for the new surface launch missile, so....? @UnstableOrbit

@SPS13 You may not know this, but there is a BSC/WSC community. Head to the Battleship Craft and Battleship Craft Navies wikias to be pointed in the right direction.

Also, stay tuned to my SimpleWarships Mod, which is a spiritual successor to BSC being developed within SimplePlanes!

I any a very early VIP level in Warship Craft, basically a newer and still supported Battleship Craft. Yes. (I have VIP ships that are not blocks, but I have to limit the fire power)

The devs are aware of this, and have it on their list of things to fix but I don't think it is their priority right now.

@poenix I agree with you 100%. While I was building my Eindecker I experimented with a stripped down version of it, a biplane version of it with a revised tailplane and a parasol wing version. AI to AI, half the time these things were either killing modern fighters by dodging missiles and cutting them down with their solitary cowl mounted "wing gun" or just outmaneuvering them until they crashed into mountains. I'm up to something like 50 kills towards the Ace of Aces badge on my game thanks to the logic of this AI. I think the AI should be able to deterimine 2 MAJOR factors. First, the presence of missiles on one fighter versus the other, and if possible, to stand off at a distane and pick off their opponent with said missiles and second the power/weight ratio even in non-missile armed aircraft. The "knife-fight" should not be attempted by a much faster and heavier fighter. It should use "Energy Fighter" tactics to streak in, attack, then zoom back out of range of their enemy's guns - rinse and repeat.

@Skua I learned this watching all the dolphin planes in the last sky cup race. Up..down...up..down..up....crash in one way valley

The AI can only use max inputs, so if it's shuddering along, it's usually a good idea to reduce the size of the control surfaces or make the plane a little more stable. It can only use 100% throttle and has no awareness of airspeed. It also doesn't actually know the stall speed of your plane - after all, it's not really something the game can just work out. It does learn more about a plane the longer it flies it for, which helps it crash less, but until then it can't really predict how the plane with handle either

@poenix believe it or not but the simpler that plane, the better for combat. Or you could max a vtol engine like me and make a plane go faster than any missile in the game.

I've found that the key to making a plane for the AI is to not make your control surfaces too big. When they are too big and the AI gives full input the surface will stall and it will bounce/not look smooth. As for crashing into the terrain there is no fix for that. Just make a plane that is very stable the AI doesn't do a terrible job with it.

@UnstableOrbit That's WSC, but yeah, I think you are right on it being one of them in the group.
