F/A-18C Hornet V3.0 (2)
I've made some good progress on the F/A-18C since the last sitrep. I want to say the airframe is more or less done and I've started working on loadouts. The flight model is also in a pretty good place. It has slower acceleration than some of the other jets I've recently made, but has good AOA and rate performance. Granted, this aircraft is limited to +7.5 G whereas the F-15C and F-16C, for example, are limited to +9 G.
The landing gear on the Hornet can be surprisingly difficult since the position when loaded vs. unloaded is drastically different, more so than other aircraft I've made.
Although, because I've been cheating by tying gear position to FT (instead of actual suspension/springs) since the F-16C V5, I was able to get around this issue.
I decided to go with the medium-vis livery of VMFA-232.
Loadout-wise, I'm not exactly 100% sure what I want to do yet. It will probably end up being similar to the F-16C, with a mix of guided and unguided bombs, the AGM-88 HARM, and of course, the AIM-9, -7, and -120.
Compared to my previous iterations of the Legacy Hornet. V2 on the left and V1 on the right.
What you see here is currently 370 parts clean and 502 parts with weapons and their pylons.
OOOOH
@MonsNotTheMonster alrighty
i kinda love twin seat Hornets tho~
@SuperSuperTheSylph I mean, B/D variants are tandem seaters, so it's up to RD if he'll provide such one. Though I can do it myself, RD's building style is pretty much easy to copy(but mine's part inefficient lmao)
@MonsNotTheMonster
believe this should help you for the A+?
also would it be easy to convert from A to B(and as such,from C to D)?
It's much easier to convert this from C to A. Just remove a few parts on the lerx and it's spine. Though A+ and A++ exists, and I can't seem to distinguish which one is which :v
@ReinMcDeer
Can't really call it a test without a few crashes
@MonsNotTheMonster i am aware of that,that is why i said pretend :))
@SuperSuperTheSylph the FA-18L's landing gears are different, as seen here, and much lighter. It's basically a supersized F-5E
@ReinMcDeer alrighty then
maybe i should pretend as if it is a land-based Hornet....
(while i am already aware it is not)
@SuperSuperTheSylph @ShinyGemsBro For full transparency, there have been a nonzero amount of landing mishaps in testing
@ShinyGemsBro well obviously :))
@SuperSuperTheSylph
So long as you don't belly flop the jet at high speed, the gears won't snap off
@ReinMcDeer uhm...okayyy??..
@SuperSuperTheSylph Yes?
@Graingy yes
cool jets
I wonder if I can still perform the pirouette maneuver on this, like the MiG-29
will it be able to take off and land on carrier without snapping the landing gear?
it looks awesome i cannot wait to try it :))
will really scratch that legacy Hornet itch i need
