Howdy howdy!

To those who haven't already seen development screenshots in SPBC or the SP2 Discord server, I've been working on a full remaster of the original Mikeska Airport. I've only made mention of this project in a couple comments here, so I figured it wouldn't be a bad idea to provide a more in-depth update.


To start off, the entire airport has been remade in Blender (the previous version was just using rescaled Wright North Runway models and existing SP assets).
I've put a bit more effort into trying to make the airport realistic. I'm not aiming to make the airport hyper-realistic, just for it to be a bit more believable and detailed.
Thus far there aren't many buildings, just the hangars and terminal. I'll be getting around to adding more soon.


The terrain has also been completely remade using a handy utility called World Machine!

Things like perlin noise, various types of erosion, and texture weight mapping have all been procedurally generated. No hand-sculpting/painting required!


The terrain now utilizes professionally-made 4k textures, courtesy of PolyHaven. Thanks to World Machine's texture weight mapping, I've been able to reduce the ugly tiling look.

The main island is surrounded by 6 smaller islands, which are planned to have some stuff located on them (radio telescopes and a weather station are currently planned).


I'm expecting to publish this by mid-July (hopefully somewhere around July 14th), and will continue to work on the project less frequently in preparation for porting to SP2.
