Late at night on Windows XP.

Some random images taken tonight on Windows XP.

YSFlight2000, with a appropriate UI for the time.

A Russian Bootleg of Gmod10, with the average resolution of a monitor in 2006/07.

Artist's (ME) rendition of me yelling into my microphone (a $5.49 dollar speaker, yes you can use speakers as microphones, yes it sounds awful) after dying.

Some pretty fine shading added to Yellow Guy.

@StockPlanesRemastered Probably had some DOS or XP reliance and won't work on newer computers.

@StockPlanesRemastered I mean, Gmod ran well on my brothers Win11 laptop. Not sure about HL1. Lego Island doesn't run on 10 or 11 for sure though. What are you trying to run?

@32 No? I just set the theme to Windows Classic and it does that automatically. An XP thing I guess.

@THEOKPILOT doesn’t that make the bars at the top of windows grey, not that blue gradient? Or are you tweaking additional things to make it look that way?

@32 @WaterFlavouredSpitfires No that's actually XP! Using the Classic theme instead of the typical blue XP makes it look like 9x era windows!!

@sleevefifties50 Yes it is! Half Life 1 and 2. HL2 is ripped from a Internet archive download. HL1 I ripped a disk and made my own.

@THEOKPILOT check out the Linus Tech Tips forums, lots of like-minded individuals there as well as status updates and stuff like that. I would hesitate to comment there as almost everyone there will be more experienced (and older) but it is a very interesting place to check out.

@sleevefifties50 You can plug one into the input jack (the red one, assuming you have separate ones, something common on a desktop) and the other into the output jack (the green one). Or find another old speaker you have lying around (assuming you have one) and use that as a mic. The smaller the speaker the better.

@32 Wait really? The NES used 480p? Also the backgrounds are usually low quality jpgs so you'd have to have a really bad computer (even for the time) to lag on that.

Ok so does having your wallpaper be a solid color actually improve performance? I heard computer nerds back in the day liked to do that because it used less RAM than having an image.
Also no shot that anyone would be using that resolution, the computer would be pretty much unusable if you couldn’t make out text lol
Heck the NES used 480p 20 years before that
