NEW INSTRUMENTS, CHARTS, AND PLANES

Here's an update of our works :

As our first post stated last year, we've been working on creating new instruments and systems using funky trees. The aim is to allow people to download them for use on their own planes, without going with external mods. We're a bit late due to final exams and work starting thereafter IRL.

  • We're finishing our new RNP guidance instrument, which shall be released during summer. It features 2D/3D guidance using GPS coordinates (like a real RNP system) for runway approach.
  • To be able to use in-game GPS coordinates, we had to collect a lot of data (touchdown points, runway elevations, runway edge coordinates, etc), which we processed through GeoGebra to create a huge chart of the game's map.
We will be releasing airport and full map charts to allow people for a better navigation experience.
  • As airfoil design is crucial for planes, we built a wind tunnel testing facility, which allows for thorough testing of different profiles, giving data which can later be transferred into spreadsheets for calculations. We still need to make it better, so we will keep you updated with its release.
  • Finally, to allow for a realistic testing experience, we built the Instrument Testing Platform, whose early version was released this week. It features two 45K lbf turbofan engines, with double-slotted fowler flaps, slats, an early RNP approach for Wright RWY36, and mass+balance testing instruments. This first aircraft release is purely demonstrative, as we have not fully finished any instruments yet.
As told in the ITP post, it will feature navigation/guidance instruments, comprehensive autopilot, and upset (i.e. stall and unusual positions) prevention and recovery systems. More details on this aircraft are given in the dedicated post.

NB: we'd be really happy to post pictures, but we have not enough points to do so. Be sure we'll add plenty of photos when we'll be able to !
