Graingy Survey: Potential Market for Airship Cruises?

42.4k Graingy  8 days ago

Right off the bat, this is only to gauge interest. As far as I am aware there is no currently ongoing project of such nature being worked on by Graingy.

So, with that being said, is there interest in such a project?

Airships with significant floor space existed at the beginning of the 20th century. LZ-129 Hindenburg rather famously had two spacious floors. Though these ships were intended by and large for transport, the ability to travel great distance at a moderate pace, while not being bound to the ocean like a conventional cruise ship, makes them appealing for a different sort of sightseeing.

Do you think Graingy should pursue this opportunity? We're not entirely inexperienced with rigid airships (See: Sadie-class prototype vessel), so there could be potential here.

    @Scrugy51 probably not. Don’t need dunk people on an aircraft.
    @oldmate52 We’re talking about an airship, not tying balloons to Idaho.
    @Ashdenpaw1 absolutely not. No. Never.

    @Boeing727200F There's likely be a single dining room (again, see Hindenburg) serving whatever. Kitchen facilities would be the greater question.

    @Boeing727200F Designated shops would be impractical (and ideologically questionable). If you haven't already, please do check the page I linked below. Space is at a premium aboard airships. Virtually all of it would be spent upon social areas and lodging.

    @Boeing727200F Movie theatre would be pointless in the face of individual screens and tablets (also, extremely volume and weight hungry).
    Gambling is straight out on grounds of company policy.
    A gift cart might work...
