About:

I've always wanted to do something along the lines of an aircraft tournament, where players can build their own unique aircraft and face off against each other. About a month ago I started making preparations to start this new kind of challenge, and now with SimplePlanes 2 in the works it makes perfect timing.

This "tournament' will be based on creating your own unique aircraft, whether it may be a helicopter, fighter jet, etc. the choice is yours. Each player will be allowed to build as a team (no more than 3 per team) or go solo. Based on what type of combat aircraft you build, each team will be grouped and will face off in the tournament.

  • For jets it's pretty simple, you'll engage in dogfights and races. But for things like helicopters, I'll have to give it some more thought. I may have a set of challenges set to judge their performance/capabilities rather than have them fight.

Perhaps some like what's listed below:

Mini-Challenges

  • Maneuverability test (how well can your aircraft perform rolls, loops, turns, climbs, and dives with precision)
  • Endurance test (speed, range of your aircraft, how long it can stay airborne)

How your aircraft perform in these smaller challenges will give you points.

When will it start:

I was initially planning to start the challenge this summer, but seeing as SP2 has actual multiplayer, it would make more sense, and be a lot more fun to host the challenge once it's been released.

What now?

Well... we wait. Changes are likely to be made as time goes on and more news is released about progress on SP2 and what features it'll have. For now, if you guys have any suggestions or ideas let me know in the comments what you think about this.

I'll also be making a leaderboard system to include all participants and their builds.

P.S. the quality of the art looks a lot better than this, but after editing the size of it on my phone to upload through SP it got worse. And yes, I know the F-22 is not a fictional aircraft, it just has a sci-fi vibe to it, that's why I chose to use it.
