Episode 10: Basilisk part 1: The hunt for the sea serpent

Pilot: “All 100 sonobuoys have been dropped sir, returning to ship.”
RSNF commander: “Copy that, you’re clear for landing. Alright Volgograd, go, track that thing down and remember, try to get behind it, run in its water stream, otherwise you will be spotted, you will not want to solo that beast.”
Volgograd’s captain: “Roger that sir, Volgograd leaving the fleet.”

The next morning is already… stressful to say the least. In the early morning, the RSNF’s commander already ordered his fleet to do some work. Last night, he contacted with Russia and they agreed to help, they said that they will send out the Moscow, Marshal Zhukov, Admiral Isakov, the RF Barracuda sub, the experimental Project 941-Bis submarine aircraft carrier (A Typhoon class submarine that’s twice as wide as the others and has a massive deck platform for aircrafts) and a Typhoon class sub, all ships except the Typhoon are armed with anti-submarine missiles and high speed torpedoes. Here’s the whole plan: the RSNF send out one of their carrier based cargo plane to drop 100 sonobuoys over a massive area, the sonobuoys are arranged in a way where there’s only one route for the Basilisk to move through so the Volgograd can track it more easily, then the Volgograd will continue to track its signal, then the fleet that will be waiting for it will send out naval drones to narrow down its location using MAD (Magnetic Anomaly Detector), once it is spotted, the fleet will try to get it out of the water and destroy it, though it might be easier said than done, that thing is armed with railguns, torpedoes and 3 massive missile silos like a battleship, but it also has the same amount of aircraft as a CV, that’s why they have to send out the Project 941-Bis, both to counter the Basilisk’s aircrafts and to cause confusion, nowhere in the world has heard of its existence.

4 hours later…

Volgograd captain: “This is RF Volgograd, we are near the entrance of the path, according to the plan, it should already there…”
Sonar sailor: “Captain, we have picked up loud noises in the water, it sounds like… something massive is moving through the water, there’s also a faint engine sound too.”
Volgograd’s captain: “Alright, that must be it, follow those sounds.”
“…”
Sailor: “We’re close to the entrance, the noises are now to our right.”
Captain: “Alright, on my mark, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, right full rudder, bearing 3-4-5.”

In the deep dark ocean, a massive submarine can faintly be seen turning in the water.

Sailor: “The sound is becoming louder, captain?”
Captain: “Keep going, wait for my mark.”

Captain: “Okay, it’s loud now, on my mark, 10, 9, 8, 7-”
Sailor: “Object is 500 meters ahead.”
Captain: “-6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, turn off engines, engage plasma drive!”
Engineer: “Shutting off main engines, opening the doors!”

The doors on the lower half on both sides of the ship open, revealing two massive pitch black tunnels in the ship’s hull. Inside, a purple light slowly glows up.

Engineer: “Plasma drive is activated!”
Sailor: “Distance to the object is 300 meters.”

In front of the Volgograd, a massive silhouette slowly comes into view.

Captain: “Turn on front camera!”
Sailor: “Roger that sir, turning on nose camera.”

One of the screens in the ship shows what the camera is looking at.

Captain: “There you are sharky. Connects with the Shtorm.”

One of the screens inside the Shtorm’s cockpit show the camera screen.

Shtorm’s captain: “Good work everyone, keep following it.”

North Russia, 2000km away.

Typhoon’s captain: “Fellas, the Volgograd has found the submarine Basilisk, they say that they’re right behind it and both ships are in the sonobuoys trench.”
Moscow’s captain: “Perfect, everything is going according to plan, alright, all ships, set sail! Time for some treasure hunting!”

Gensokyo, 11pm.

Shtorm’s captain: “You guys still following the Basilisk?”
Volgograd’s captain: “Yeah, is there anything, Victor?”
Victor (Shtorm’s captain): “Yeah, there’s something I want to tell you. I just messed around with the blueprints, I actually found a password protected blueprint, going through all the ship blueprints, I found out that only Basilisk has an alternate name, it is Project-033430. After I entered the code, the blueprint is a massive ICBM with a MIRV warhead, it’s name is simply Doomsday. Then I have a closer look at the Basilisk blueprint, but I found nothing… well, at that moment, then I messed around with the files a bit and accidentally extracted the Basilisk’s blueprint, turn out, there’s actually another blueprint inside, it’s a newer and more detailed one, I found that there’s a massive space right underneath the runway. I then brought the missile into the Basilisk blueprint, scaled it down to match the ratio, and I dragged it to that empty space and, well, it fitted perfectly.”
Volgograd’s captain: “Shit… should we tell them?”
Victor: “No, it’s fine, I already have a plan if that thing takes off.”

To be continued…
