Winners of the Classic Jet Challenge 12/2023

Classic-Jet-Challenge

FIRST PLACE

F-112 Delta Spear by @Leehopard

Realistic speed increase, realistic landing
Great build: Landing gear and doors
cool factor - folding wing tip due to the speed (this reminds me of B-70 Valkire Bomber). de Havilland Sea Vane is another plane built by Leehopard amazing VTOL plane. It's a great airplane with a complex build, including a wing-folding mechanism, VTOL fan, etc. VTOL was a bit underpowered and could only take off without the external fuel tanks and missiles. I choose F-112 on overall performance. For me, this is the most exciting plane in this challenge. Sea Vane could be a second prize, but I chose one entry from every person, so thanks to Leehopard for joining with two awesome planes.

Second Place:

SAAB J35 @AntonWings

@AntonWings joined with 3 cool planes:
SAAB J35, SAAB J29 and Yak-17.
Yak-17 is a great build. I especially love the realistic-looking colors and the way it handles so easily. However, I award SAAB J35F due to the complexity of the build. J29 is my favorite, but I must be fair with my choices and decisions.

3rd Place:

Sukhoi Su-27 Flanker-A by VeroViper

This plane got many points due to overall performance. era fun to fly as well as great plane for dog-fight.

Runnerup 1:

Hawker Sea Hawk FGA.6

Erc90F4RU entered 2 entries, with Sea Hawk FGA.6 and Gloster Meteor F.8. Both got similar performance, but Sea Hawk got a better performance and more interesting livery and wing folding.

Runnerup 2:

F-84G Thunderjet MrPanzer

The plane made a realistic take-off, with the engine speeding up slowly, a notable way to fly. And great build. Only a few people saw this, but I recommend trying it if you love a classic plane. It was an undervoted plane.

Runnerup 3:

Northrop XP-79 by Ownedpilot

It was a great build, especially the airbrakes, and the landing gears and doors were also very nice. Nice touch with the air brakes.

Notable Builds:

NAA RA-5C Vigilante by ZeroWithSlashedO

It has a beautiful build and is easy to fly and take off. But it is hard to land because it is incredibly light. So it doesn't feel like it's size - Vigilante was a large, heavy plane like F14 Tomcat. I suggest adding more mass.

Lockheed F-104A Starfighter by Imacatnow

Beautiful build. The take-off speed is a bit too fast. It will never leave the runway until 250 mph or higher.

Volotok VF-195 Jéan F-395B FAB by VOLOTOK

Fun to fly, and it was a nice build. My complaint is that it is too fast for a ground attack aircraft. Or, I will keep the same speed, add only four long-range Air-to-Air missiles, and call it an air superiority fighter or fighter interceptor. (Look Mig-25 as an example)

Hawker P.1121 by CR929thenewSPplayer

Interesting cockpit design. The roll rate is too fast, and I have difficulty controlling this. But it is a beautiful one. Thank you so much for adding 3 planes - Hawker P.1121 and two P.1103s. All inspire me while playing them around.

Bell XF-109 (VTOL) by NINJ4

I appreciate adding the VTOL to this challenge. Still, there are many challenges with it.

AR-1 by ariakenori

I like this over the F-5A "Freedom Fighter" - Both are great planes to fly, But I vote for the 1950s-style fictional one over the simple F-5. I love that jet intake and how it handles it. Great job.

Mig-21 by irFrance747400

It is a clean build; easy to handle and fly nicely. I suggest it should fly twice as fast as the current speed. Which has to be March 2+ (around 1500mph)

MiG-29A by Imacatnow

Nice and accurate build; except some missiles got too large - be aware of the size of the missiles - which damage your aircraft while firing.

F-94 Starfire @by SorryOutOfService

Lovely plane. But there was 100% Fuel on all fuselage and wings, which made the plane too heavy to take off and land. It never leaves the runway until it reaches 250mph. This number should be around 120-150mph for this kind of aircraft.

Thank You ALL (ALL) for Joining this great Challenge!

Wishing you all the Best for the Happy New Year.

@AntonWings My pleasure. The challenge for me was, that I had to go through all your builds to find something I hadn't highlighted or upvoted before. Ha ha

    @WinsWings
It is a great surprise, honor and pleasure to receive the 2nd place award for my J35F among so many great builds.
This challenge taught me two things after building only WW2 prop planes up until now. The fun of building jets and the fun of low part builds.
Thank you to everyone who has upvoted my builds. And thanks to WinsWings. And thank you for judging so many entries at the end of a busy year. I look forward to another fun challenge.
Happy New Year and may this year be a good one for all!

@ZeroWithSlashedO I was trying to fix it during the judging. I added 4000 pounds distributed around the CoM area and 1000 pounds behind the nose cone (so that without moving the CoM point.) But still, the plane is light as a feather. It flies beautifully, but the problem is during the landing. The airspeed is very hard to decrease. I guess you need to add some more drags. And I would not change the mass of the parts to Zero (unless it is necessary). Overall, it is an elegant plane - very graceful. I was trying to maintain the landing speed to <120 mph. Imagine it has to land on the carrier as a Navy plane.

Working on a video about my entry but I underestimated how much work goes into these kinds of things so it won’t be ready for another few days. Make sure to be on the lookout for it though!

So it doesn't feel like it's size - Vigilante was a large, heavy plane like F14 Tomcat. I suggest adding more mass.

About that, the mass of it should be the accurate mass. I myself don't know how is it producing that much lift, but I assumed that it was how it flies. Since, I rarely do edit the liftScale of any wing on my builds.

Perhaps I'll move the mass forward, instead of adding more mass. I myself expected it to be a really heavy aircraft, but I was pleasantly surprised by how it flew at slower speeds, given that it is supposed to be a bomber.
