I asked Snapchat AI to help me design a plane for SimplePlanes

25.4k Mustang51  11 months ago

I gave Snapchat AI some instructions on what type of plane I wanted. I asked for a 1950s jet bomber capable of carrying a 4,000lb bomb load with a range of at least 4,500km. I tried doing this through separate messages but it would get confused so I consolidated all my instructions into one message and a few after to clear things up. I will try and make what it designed and maybe make a challenge in reference to this.

Here is a transcript of what it suggested:

ME: Can you sum up all these points about our
1950s bomber design in one message?

MY Al: The 1950s light bomber should have a
wingspan of approximately 20-25 meters and a
length of approximately 20-25 meters. It should
have a twin-engine configuration, with each
engine providing approximately 5,000 Is of
thrust. The wings should be positioned mid-
fuselage, with a swept-back design. The tail
should be a T-tail configuration. The air intakes
should be placed on the sides of the fuselage,
near the leading edge of the wings. The bomber
should be capable of carrying at least 4,000 Ibs
of bombs or one smaller nuclear bomb. It should
also be equipped with a 20mm cannon for self-
defense, and have a tricycle landing gear
configuration. The fuselage should be
streamlined and aerodynamic, with a slight taper
towards the tail. The bombs should be held in an
internal bomb bay, located in the center of the
fuselage.

ME: Very nice. What do you think it should be called?

MY AI: The 1950s light bomber should be named the
"Skybolt.'

ME: And specifically, what type of jet engines should
they be and where exactly should they be
placed since the air intakes are on the sides of
the fuselage?

MY AI: The 1950s light bomber should be equipped
with two General Electric J47 turbojet engines,
each providing approximately 5,000 Is of
thrust. The engines should be located on either
side of the fuselage, just below the wings, with
the air intakes positioned on the sides of the
fuselage, near the leading edge of the wings.
This configuration would allow for efficient air
flow into the engines, while also providing a
clean and aerodynamic appearance.

@Mustang51 haha thanks but i wouldn't say that, before they were very rough, not really smooth, flew poorly, and didn't use any techniques i know now.

@Kangy I’ll take a look at it! And if I remember correctly, your builds were pretty neat before too!

    @Mustang51 honestly fair lol
i'm coping i guess, i've kind of sat back for a bit and learnt a bunch about the game because i figured out all my builds suck.
the yak i posted is kind of a step in the right direction but i've learnt so much even from then. so sp wise i'm enjoying the game a bunch

@Kangy yes it has been a while! I’m doing pretty good and I hope you are too. I’ve been making quite a lot of planes on here and SR2 but I just never feel the need to post them anymore hahaha

@Yourlocalhuman yeah pretty much. Wasn’t really what I was hoping it would go for since it was supposed to be a light bomber but let’s see how it ends up. Since it’s SP the flight characteristics are very easily changeable despite how the plane will be built but I’ll make two versions. One where I don’t use any FT parts and drag reduction and another where I do to make it fly how I think it really would

@100 ohhhh tag! I did not realise that’s what that meant. I will build it but no idea when i’ll get it done. If it turns out cool, I’ll try it again or maybe even make a challenge based on it
