The F-14 is not the greatest plane ever made. To say that would be like saying Tetris is the greatest game of all time. Incredible, yes. Innovative, yes. A classic, yes. But really though, put an F-14 up against an F-35 and you'll see what I mean.

the Fokker Dr.1 is the best plane to ever exist

@Aviator01 actually anything can happen, but I will say, if the F-14 was as good as the F-35 we'd still be using them.
The Fokker may actually be able to avoid a lock, as its primitive engine will have a lower heat signature than a modern jet, and it’s a relatively small target.
@32 An F-14 and an F-35 are more evenly matched than a Fokker and an SU-33. Also, the Fokker’s low speed and exceptional maneuverability could potentially allow the pilot to dive for the ground, make an emergency landing, start running away from the aircraft, while the SU-33 struggles to get a lock because it keeps overshooting the Fokker. Then the SU-33 would target and destroy the pilot as he tries to run away.
@Aviator01 true, but saying "its not the plane, its the pilot" is like saying if you put a Fokker up against a SU-33. the fokker could win if they both malfunctioned. I mean, theoretically yes but a decent pilot in an SU-33 could beat the best Fokker out there.

Interesting opinion. Both planes are built for BVR engagements, with the F-14’s long range missiles, and the F-35’s stealth. One likely scenario is that both planes would malfunction and crash. In the end, it all comes down to the fact that it isn’t the plane, it’s the pilot.
F-35 is garbage.
