Fuselage cutting lets you do some pretty cool stuff without paneling, one of the coolest being stealth fuselages, as seen on some of the recent F-22 Raptors and Su-57 Felons on the site. Because it is so cool, I am now dubbing the acronym PAT: Paneling Avoidance Techniques.
I was kinda inspired by how LEGO builders came up with SNOT (Studs Not On Top).

By using PAT, I was able to make the electromagnetic launcher (EML) from ACE COMBAT 7: SKIES UKNOWN in less than 30 parts. Unrelated to fuselage cutting, but I was also able to use SenSkysh's Turret FT to add a 5 degree aim assist and auto lead.

I also thought this was a good opportunity to test out V's linear actuator to make the EML unit open and close. And I can say this works way better than the in-game pistons. No wobble, no fuss, and just as easy to use.

Stealth Fuselage Proof of Concept

I also tried my hand at making a stealth fuselage using PAT and this is how it came out. I'm not going to say what this is, but it is a little obvious.

This is the only portion that is paneled. The inlet also uses a similar technique to what I used on my F/A-18F's intake.

The way it works is the amount of vertical and horizontal cut determines the angle. Although, you shouldn't have less than 10% fill or else the meshes can get a little funky. I will say, it is not easy, so this isn't a simple way for beginners to make stealth fuselages like the old 45 degree hard circular fuselage technique. Compared to paneling a stealth fuselage, it's more of a different challenge than a simpler way of doing it.

Side note: I don't think paneling is dead or ever will be. There's still plenty of situations where paneling is still the only option. (i.e. F-117, pretty much all tanks, etc.)
