Question on a simple system to determine range

Since we all know Simpleplanes is not really that good at determining range or that sort of stuff i have a simple question, im reading about Stadiametric Rangefinder in Wikipedia, its a simple system using this some sort of ladders with different height from each other, each ladder correspond to 100m, 200m, and so forth, so i was thinking, "can i possibly use such system in Simpleplanes to determine range?", Maybe not to 100m, but im thinking can i use this system to range a very far target, im talking about range in kilometers of course, can it still be used?, is it possible to use such system, because if i can use this system on my ships i can perhaps range a target better than what i currently does, of course seeing splashes (or in this case shell landing position) is hard and its very annoying, let me what you guys thought about such stuff, it may not range a small target like the destroyers but if i can comfortably range the USS Beast from around 15km range i would be happy, i may also create an example of it, a rough one of course, so that atleast you guys know what im talking about, allright then, see you later chaps!

you can use that system, since it's based on parabolic trajectory, the problem is that SP lacks a zoom system, so you'd have to use the Zoom mod to have a proper long range aiming device
