The alternate history version of Philippines...
The nation of Philippines had gained independence in the year 1935, and its economy has grown dramatically. The government was concerned of another great war breaking out, so they decided to strengthen its military (naval and air assets).
Military Decelopment
It was unknown to the members of the Washington Naval treaty that the Philippines has new secret facilities able to build large battleships, and as a result, the Philippine Navy was not restricted by the Washington naval treaty.
Although...
The Philippine Government opted to build Aircraft Carriers to preserve the natural resources on small islands. They did build a few battleships and battlecruisers. But they saw the potential of naval aviation, and therefore had built more carriers and improved aircraft.
End Result
This resulted in The Philippines expanding its territory.
@Speedhunter of course, not trying to ridicule your alternate universe, I just found it interesting that the territory you had your alternate Philippines control was the one that even when the US was outnumbered and outgunned, still managed to hold on to, and devastate the attacking forces.

Very bold of you to assume the Philippines could take Midway. Imperial Japan gave it all they could, and even they couldn't break the US forces guarding that atoll
