FuelCalc - A Tool to Estimate Your Fuel Requirements

161k spefyjerbf  4.2 years ago

Hi everyone,

I have emerged from the void, again, to bring you another tool that I coded. Unlike my last one, this tool will not be rendered obsolete by the new Funky Trees update.

This tool, which I named FuelCalc, calculates the amount of fuel needed to fly your aircraft according to your specifications.

Special thanks to Starbound for finding the fuel consumption rates for all the engines!

Web Version

This program is only available as a web application. Use this link to get started!

Mobile Users, PLEASE READ...

This program is not formatted for mobile, but it sort of works. To use it, click on the web application link. Additionally, please note the following tips:

  • Your device MUST stay in vertical orientation for the program to work properly.
  • Input values by tapping on the screen typing a value in, and pressing "return".
  • Hide your keyboard after each input. Zoom out, and scroll down to see the next prompt.

The table that I formatted is somewhat broken on mobile, so I'll paste in a picture for you:

About the Program

FuelCalc is a very simple program that calculates the amount of fuel required for a set of given specifications. The user provides each different engine, throttle value, and run time to the program. After the program receives all needed user inputs, it displays an engine-by-engine breakdown of the aircraft's required fuel. A total fuel requirement, too, is also provided.

Code-wise, it is much fancier than my last program. It features input validation, and some nice operations with lists. I also used an object-oriented approach for the first time when coding this program!

This will come in handy especially for my ship which evidently (not really) use jet turbine for propulsion, now i can see the max range and optimum throttle input for cruising
