This issue may cost a lot of issues if not worked on

105k Hedero  4.2 years ago

Hello everybody, I know I've been lacking on upload times lately but I've been busy. But here is the reason I made this forum. I was working for at least a day on my newest project's airfoil to make it flush and beautiful. I get all the wings done and I save the build. When I go to re-load the aircraft, it says that there was an error loading the design. This was the first time anything like this ever happened to me. I literally can't re-load the design in anyway. Its file is in the designer but I can't load it it. So it is basically deleted. It all happened so quickly, I did nothing that I'm aware of to cause it to happen. Just poof, it couldn't load in. And it had around 100 parts, so part count wasn't the issue. If anyone can help me than great. Also a disclaimer, I am on my iPad. And although I think it is rare, it still discourages me to build more aircraft in fear that it will happen again. So either make a simple bug fix or tell me what's happening if at all possible. Thank you.

Well I think I've found a way to prevent it. Say you're building your he 219, you build the body and cockpit. Save it as he 219 (1). Then you build the wings, save it as he 219 (2). And so on and so forth until you're finished. I sometimes have up to 70 saves on a single airplane.@shipster

It happens to me on a daily so I have stopped work on my rather decent HE-219 :(

Ok. Well diloph posted a forum about it too and SilverWolf said that he just posts tons of unlisted aircraft to back it up. So I guess until the problem gets resolved, I'll just do that. But thanks for the help, I really appreciate it.@SnoWFLakE0s

    .
It's usually under some directory titled AircraftDesigns, but idk where you can find that on iPad.

Ok, so from what I'm gathering, the issue may have been caused due to an incorrect xml edit. If so, I guess I can try to make sure I don't make my edits too crazy. The only time I used xml was to edit the suspension on my gear.@SnoWFLakE0s

How would I let you look at the problematic files? I suck at things related to tech, so don't expect much lol. But I can try.@SnoWFLakE0s

You've done something wrong. You can't load the file if:

    1. You've made a mistake in XML editing, creating loading problems
    2. You've messed with mods, but seeing as you are on iPad, this shouldn't be the case.

So it's pretty clear that you've made a faulty XML edit that causes problems. If you can access the game files, then I can take a look at the problematic file and try to spot the error.

If you still don't get what DickBrazen is saying:
    - Quick Edit: an app that can be used to view/edit xml files (SP designs are in this format). You would be able to find and fix any error in the file to recover the build.
    - Backing up: Just upload your craft as unlisted while you're making it, just so you don't lose everything if something like this happens.
    .
Since you're on your iPad (iOS), there's nothing you can do, as you can't access your files... So sorry, but you've lost it forever.

@Hedero no, quick edit is not a mod and I use it all the time to view the text files and make changes that might take too long to do in-game. Is great once you know how to use it, just remember to BACK UP

But, isn't quick edit a mod you have to download?@DickBrazen

You should get a file editor like Quick Edit and copy/paste the text of the build, then make it available for others to look at. This happened to me once before the 1.9 update and me knowing anything about xml editing. Still don't know much, but somebody might be able to look at it and see.
