CLU-GL Simple & Realistic Cluster Bomb
Did you really think that I created it to destroy enemy ground objects? NO! I CREATED IT TO TOTALLY DESTROY YOUR WEAK DEVICES MWAHAHAHAH
I already made cluster bomb long ago, but it was quite goofy, so I decided to build another one.
Cluster bombs in SimplePlanes: Theory
Cluster bombs in SP are quite useless, because they will always have very high performance cost and their effeciency is VERY questionable. The only reason to build this kind of weaponry is just for fun & epicness.
Theory: How to build cluster bomb easily?
Cluster bomb consists of:
* Container hull
* Detachers that shoot submunitions from the container
* Submunitions (usually in-game bomb details) on detachers
* Detachable container doors and detachers for them (optional if you want realism)
Optimal way to build cluster container is building a simple cluster module for 1-2 submunitions, adding it to subassemblies and then just connect any amount of these modules that you want together.
Important! Activation groups of all of your submunitions should be set on IAS<0 or something like that, so it will never activate, and detachers' input must be a ft code that activate them after container drops!
To drop your cluster bomb, you need the initiation weapon.
I recommend you to pick rocket for this purpose, because when you pick bomb, in game it is predicting the falling trajectory, that is obviously incorrect for cluster bomb.
To control your cluster bomb, you need wings with control surfaces on them. It is neccessary because if it will fly straight, the submunitions will detach as straight line and will create just some straight explosion lines on the ground that aren't look funny & epic (if you won't set smbmunitions explosion scale to very big value of course), but if it will roll during the submunition detaching, it will create large field of random exposions. Another way to achieve this effect, but without wings is placing a lot of detachers in a ring-like structure.
About my cluster bomb
My bomb is realistic, fin-stabilized, wing-controlled, unguided cluster container with 80 scaled boom-250 submuintions inside. It has enormous part count performance cost due to it's structure. The cluster part consists of 40 modules, each containing 9 parts: hull, 2 submunitions, 2 detachable doors and 4 detachers. So cluster part totally has 360 parts and 160 of them are detachers, that have very high performance cost. But process of detaching submunitions is truly epic!
How it works
After dropping from the plane container flies straight for 1.7 seconds. Then FT code rotating control surfaces of container's fin, causing it to roll. On 2 seconds after the drop detaching phase begins. Container detaches 80 submunitions in 3 seconds. And then it goes
BOOM!
is the link to plane that carries 3 CLU-CLs.
Warning! 6931 Performance cost!
