Icarus Air Co. EWR-3 Peregrine
Submission for CallsignGizmo’s AWACS Challenge.
When the PDF Air Force had an open competition for the AWACS contract, Icarus Air decided to go for the contract. They decided to use the IA-3 Falcon, a passenger and cargo aircraft designed in 1949, as the basis for the new aircraft, but modified with Hermes II Turboprop engines to replace the 18 cylinder radials, splitting the vertical stabilizer into a twin set to allow space for the radar, added an APU in the back to start the engines, and added all the necessary avionic equipment needed.
The RadCorp Mk. II stationary Radar was mounted on the top, using two powerful radar antennas, one forward and one aft, to sweep the area for tracks. They also use a RadCorp Mk. III Magnetic Anomaly Detector on the bottom for searching for Submarines.
A slew of antennas were added to the airframe, to include UHF and VHF antennas on the bottom aft, a LF and VLF antenna that goes across the top, and a retractable and towable ELF antenna, to communicate to any ally in any frequency.
With a maximum speed of 215 mph, and able to loiter for hours over a battlefield, the Peregrine has the command and control capabilities to give the advantage to any military.
