[Skyshield] Air-defense system is a modular, lightweight, Short Range Air Defense (SHORAD) system developed by the Swiss company Oerlikon Contraves (now a subsidiary of Rheinmetall from Germany). The successor to the Skyguard defense system, Skyshield is intended to quickly acquire and destroy aircraft and missiles.
The weapon system itself consists of two 35 mm (1.38 inches) revolver cannons with a firing rate of 1,000 rounds per minute, a fire control system consisting of a sensor unit and a separate command post.
