[KE-RP] BS-54E Condor — Airborne Early Warning and Control Platform

79.1k B1  12 days ago

Overview

The BS-54E Condor is a modified version of the Guardian Aerospace BS-54 civilian aircraft. It is a long range electronic warfare version providing radar coverage (declassified) in a circle with a radius of 170 miles while cruising at 10,000 feet. At this altitude it can also provide coverage of up to a circle with a radius of 270 miles (for contacts above a ceiling of 20,000 feet). Originally a project proposed by Julio Montesa in 1965 to convert an airliner into an airborne radar system, it was ready in just four years. It is not available for export and only available to the Fuerza Aérea de Españila. The overall electronic warfare and radar equipment includes the following:
The primary radar operation system mounted on the top of the fuselage — Range of 170-270 miles. Two downwards looking radars able to detect contacts under the aircraft at any altitude. Two forward facing infrared systems able to detect heat signatures in a 240º field. And two weather radar sensors mounted on the port and starboard sides of the aircraft. They are positioned at the same Z coordinate as the GBE-1000 turbofans.
