I think it's pretty clear

that the SCOURGE has some personal issues with our bombers, because they just dropped this thing. Armed with 4 20mm miniguns and 6 LRI Long-Range Interceptor missiles, the Red Interceptor is very clearly intent on attacking large and heavy targets. Even if it can't stop bombers, it can sure give them some serious anxiety.

Speaking of anxiety, it's probably good that SCOURGE jets seem to be unmanned, because the Red Interceptor, if manned, would probably give its own pilot anxiety. The Red Interceptor isn't the most maneuverable of the Scourge-Jets, but it's not exactly the slowest either. Sounds good at first, until you think about G-Forces, which increase with higher speed. A huge problem when you're flying a jet that can go Mach 2+ in level flight under a ceiling of 10,000 feet. If you go up to an altitude where strategic bombers would actually be flying, this thing is easily capable of Mach 3. The Red Interceptor is so fast that not even the A-40D is capable of catching up with it, although I'm hesitant to say the same about the Havoc II's weapons.

That said, even though the design principle of Scourge-Jets is "low cost, mid performance, high numbers," they sure cooked up a serious beast this time. The one plane they have that isn't good at dogfighting is the only one that doesn't actually need to dogfight because it will be zooming around the islands at Mach 2-3 half the time. Keep an eye out for these speedsters, I've got a feeling they'll be major threats in the future, especially if we try to attack the main SCOURGE where these Interceptors will be bound to be on high alert.
