The SimplePlanes 2 Flight Demo is officially live! To participate, just go to the SimplePlanes 2 Steam page and click the “Join the Playtest” button in the playtest box. The game will automatically be added to your Steam library so you can just download it and start playing! This demo runs until November 3, so you have all week to play.
What To Expect
As we’ve talked about before, this demo does not contain the building mechanics other than the paint tool, it is instead focused on the multiplayer sandbox aspect of the game on a small section of the map. You can try out all of the new stock crafts, repaint and texture them to your liking with the paint tool, race your friends (or blow them up), protect Driftwood Island from bombers and mechs, and probably also break the game in ways we hadn’t thought of.
When you enter a craft for the first time there will be a little quick start guide telling you the basic controls, as well as how to load crafts and start activities. We have a variety of activities in the demo, and we encourage you to try them out! To play with your friends, click the “FLY” button in the main menu and you can host or join a game. If hosting a private game, you’ll have to invite people through the Steam overlay (opened via pressing Shift+Tab). If somebody is being a nuisance in your lobby, the host can kick them via the player list (where you can also copy other players’ crafts if you want).
If you come across a bug, click the little bug icon in the pause menu to report it to us and we’ll take a look. Please make sure to provide clear instructions for reproducing the issue, if possible. Once you’ve played for a little while, you’ll be asked to fill out a feedback survey. Filling this out is optional, but doing so would help us a lot!
Thank you so much for playing. If you enjoy your time in the demo, please wishlist the game as every wishlist helps us a lot. We hope you have fun, I’m sure some of the team will occasionally hop into random multiplayer lobbies to see what you’re up to.
Stay tuned tomorrow for an announcement on a contest we'll be running 👀
waittttt... after the demo ended there was this pop up in sp1 and jno saying that there would be a second demo. will there actually be a second demo?

@SupremeDorian i'll pay just for the demo
Part 3 (This is 1 of 3 parts, part 1 and 2 are below)
* Suggestions for improvement
-Jundroo allows us to fly at supersonic with stock engine, with proper sound barrier effects.
-Compass, add an anchor like in Simpleplanes 1.
-Rework the sound effect of counter measure and bomb explosion visuals.
-In the drag simulation section, there should be a guide explaining how to read the data, along with a color legend that shows which colors correspond to each level of drag (similar to how geographical maps include a legend to indicate changes in terrain elevation).
-Add an UI to pause, play next, previous, replay and choose songs.
-With the nuke problem, I think Jundroo could allow the host to limit the explosion scale of bombs or restrict the weapon types.
-Refueling at the airports.
-Radar system simulation, including factors affecting the radar resolution.
-Ship, submarine, tank parts (Reason ? This game is ComplexVehicles not Simpleplanes for a long time).
-Replay and cinematic camera system ( I really need this feature to make trailer for my plane, when I want to post them on website).
-Option to toggle mouse cursor visibility.
-Add the high G effect on pilot.
-Fuselage editor is similar to Flyout or “Edit mode in Blender” (This might be controversial,though).(I don’t mean Jundroo should copy, but the fuselage editor in Simpleplanes 1 has some limitations. For example, creating complex fuselage shape of stealth fighter, which is designed to reduce RCS, can be done by tricks. However, it takes a lot of time and sometimes really hard to do).
(I haven’t tried fuselage editor of Simplelanes 2 yet because of playtest limitation).
Overall, for me Simpleplanes 2 is a good game. Though it has some drawbacks, they can be fixed and I believe that Jundroo can give players a good experience when the game is released next year. I hope success will come to your team.
Question
-I don’t know if it’s my fault or game bug, but I can’t see the “target lead predictor” when in combat mode.
Part 2 (This is 1 of 3 parts, part 1 is below)
Bad points
-Game still can’t simulate the sound barrier. From what I experineced, I feel that Jundroo still limits player to fly at subsonic with stock engine (engine which is not modified using overload mod).
-In the fly instrument UI (the one that you still see at the bottom center of the screen, not the instrument that you install on basic/modern frame), the compass doesn’t have the anchor like in the Simpleplanes 1 (anchor in compass in Simpleplanes 1 looks like this |N| ), so It’s hard for me to head North, South, East, West.
-The sound of Countermeaure when it’s launched make me feel unpleasant. I don’t know much about soundFX, but may be the volume or pitch of countermeasure sound effect is too high ?
-The explosion effect of bombs (only bombs) doesn’t look good — it just appears like a black sphere and doesn’t convey the power of the blast. (In this aspect, I think Jundroo could take some inspiration from Gestour’s Kaboom mod). The explosion effects of other weapons, however, are well done.
-There are no buttons to pause, play next, previous or choose songs.
-Game can’t show the effect of high G on pilot.
-With multiplayer, I play it very fun, but too much nuke from other player, though Jundroo has patch for this problem.
I don’t know where to make dev can read this so I have to post this in comment section of this blog
Because of characters limitation in comment section so I will divide to 3 parts (including Good points (Part 1), Bad points (Part 2), Suggestions for improvements and features that I want (Part 3) )
A short review for Simpleplanes 2 (playtest version)
The review here is my personal view, impressions and experience with the playtest. Some of my reviews can be controversial and comparative. Some features are currently locked in playtest, so I can’t test and review them.
Good points
-The game has good optimization. Though I can’t meet all the minimum hardware requirements, I still can play the game at high quality setting (My CPU is i510400F 2.9GHz, the requirement is CPU with 3GHz, GTX 1650 4gb VRAM, 16gb Ram). I’ve test with the object, which has 1715 parts, with high quality setting. The result is I could play the game at around 27 - 28fps.
-The Graphics is a big step forward, it’s more attractive than the Simpleplanes 1. The color is more vibrant (I use default color setting, you can change the color in game setting). The Textures like runway, mountains, ground, sky look more natural than previous version. Especially the runway gives me a feeling it’s a real runway, not a flat rectangular block like in Simpleplanes 1.
-The light system has greatly improved. Sunlight reflections look more realistic, The overall brightness (light ?) in the game make me feel lively and warm, unlike the darker, colder tone in Simpleplanes 1.
-The physics system is improved a lot. For example, when I landed the aircraft on sea surface, it briefly floats before sinking, or when I drive a car on sand, dust trails appear behind. There will be more, but I don’t remember (Sorry).
-The painting system is better than in Simpleplanes 1. Now the game has new color picker, which allows Builder can choose wider color range (color picker in game is same to the color picker in image editor apps, I think ?). The addition of texture, style and decal makes customization more detailed and creative.
@TheLoadingGorilla thanks!
@Randompilot18 the play test is on Steam and, as a result, inaccessible on mobile (unless your mobile device can run steam I guess). As for your second question, I have no idea about Australian currency, but they previously said about $20-$25 in USD currency (with a 10% discount when in early access), so convert that to whatever Australian currency I guess 🤷♂️. Hope this answers your questions!
Questions: (maybe @supremedorian can reply)
A) how do I access the playtest on mobile?
B) how much will the game cost in Australia?
@SupremeDorian Splendid
@SupremeDorian sweet I wont need to download a ton of random crap I always have
@Boeing727200F @Graingy The demo and the full game share the same AppData folder, so your saved crafts should carry over when the game is out.
@ElTruenito ok cool.
You know that said the demo would be painting and flight only right?
@Boeing727200F Even bigger issue if, should they not be the same, the SP2 demo doesn't get rid of the redundant files.
Can there be a way to disable audio for prop engines. A lot of airliners use them as blades so you can still hear them even when the plane is supposed to be completely off, unfortunately
Will all of our builds downloaded during the demo save when the full game comes out and/or if you are given early access. I just want to know as I already know it will be a pain to redownload 30 something pages of crap.
Definitely needs a way to invert mouse joystick. Flying without is difficult and unintuitive.
(sorry for panicking ;) )
@SupremeDorian , WHOEVER-ELSE-CAN-HELP-ME (Maybe @AndrewGarrison ?)
I installed the SP2 Playtest but it just shows the "Loading..." text and IMMEDIATELY CRASHES. I turned on Task Manager and it only shows this. Not only that but before installing it it says in Steam that the total size in GB is 3.41GB. But when I download it it only comes with 1.3GB! Anything I can do to play it before the Playtest period and the new Contest ends? PLEASE HELP ME FOR REAL
Probably the wrong place for this comment, but:
Will we have procedural landing gears? SP2 is nice and all based on the teasers and demo, but having customizable landing gear would be even more appreciated and immersive.
@ElTruenito its just for now.
And I played a game without anyone in it just for the fun.
