[Pre-Dreadnought Challenge]

Description:

In the year 1895, just two years after Dan Salvador gained its independence from the Diacan Republic, the young, yet resource rich nation sought to update and strengthen its navy.

The Royalty-class Pre Dreadnought battleship was a result of the need to strengthen the Dan Salvadorian Navy, which still consisted of aging Ironclad warships. DSN Monarch was the first to be built and completed in the Royalty-class, being launched in 1899 with three of her sister ships (DSN Knight, DSN Prince, and DSN Empress) in the Drydock.

DSN Monarch was named after the ironclad that decisively won the naval battle for Dan Salvador's independence in 1892, the DRS (Dan Salvador Resistance Ship) Monarch, which had since been de-commissioned and has been converted into a museum, keeping all its parts intact.

A change in name:

In the year 1901, Dan Salvador suffered a tsunami that rendered most of their navy ships useless. The DSN Knight was forced aground and the dry docks holding DSN Prince and DSN Empress have been damaged, with both ships being lifted and moved by the tsunami. Only DSN Monarch survived as she was docked in the UK when the tsunami happened.

The loss of almost all the ships in Dan Salvador's navy pushed its government to re-commission the Monarch Ironclad, hence the Pre-Dreadnought was promptly renamed "Monarch II" to prevent confusion among the crew.

Career:

The Monarch II mostly served as the Monarch's protector, especially during the early years of the Great War. There was even a moment of truce where the opposing Diacan forces issued a temporary cease-fire so the Ironclad Monarch can limp home safely.

In the later years of the war, when the Dan Salvadorian Navy regained half its planned strength, and more ships have been built, the Monarch II sank the Diacan ship, the DN (Diacan Navy) Hermann-Sol after blowing a full broadside with its secondary and tertiary batteries on the Diacan battleship.

DSN Monarch II had fought in many battles during the Great War and had also been turned into a museum ship when she was de-commissioned in 1943.

In her years of service the Royalty-class had informally been called as Sailing Fortresses or Floating Omelettes due to how round the reinforced bow was compared to other pre-dreadnoughts. They proved useful in Ramming and resisting shells fired directly at the bow.

It has a rather bulbous bow

@Monarchii yea, Turbine is more efficient than pistons at higher speeds

@Monarchii I mean Diesel engines are good for the small ships, but there's a sorta size limit where you have to transition to more effective means in relation to size (Nooo- Not the coalman XD)

@Monarchii I mean after oil, some ships transitioned to diesel engines others used nuclear to heat steam iirc (The Coalman has been reborn XD)

@Speedhunter lmao XD, and to that extent I suppose I know, but more so the intricate technical stuff of how this there and that and something along those lines work of sorts, and yea, better more sustainable high speeds etc of sorts, and more energy dense and you don't have to shovel it in XD (probably as combustible as one too XD)

@Monarchii The Coal Workout Routine XD, I mean feeding coal to boilers and then the steam from the boilers drives either pistons or turbines so the big boat go vroom.... Then in WW2 Coal was replaced with oil to burn in the boilers (Yeee, but once you come out you smell like coal XD)

@Speedhunter bench press the coal bags XD, and yeap, there's also some technical stuff regarding feeding the coal too etc but further of that I have yet to learn more (hey, free sauna XD)

@Monarchii I mean carrying weights makes you really buff... And yeah Steamships are really cool, but coal is tedious work.... (It's like going to coal mines but even hotter)

@Speedhunter I mean, definitely not far from reality really, somewhat also the same back-breaking shipwork onboard is the duty of a stoker during the steamships era and boy hours of hours feeding and shoveling coal if that doesn't give you a buff body then idk what will(although of course, *coughs in coal dust residing in respiratory system*)

@Speedhunter i mean, if you carry and load cannon ammunitions day-by-day the side effect would probably be that you would be buff af knowing how heavy they are XD

@Speedhunter I think honestly they are loaded via some automation or atleast machine help but you know what doesn't have that and to of equal size? the Dahlgren Guns, iirc 11in were hand loaded and hell maybe even the 15in though I forgot a bit if it is
