On 25 October 2004 the Italian Air Force organized a challenge between an F-104S and a motorcycle Ducati 999, winner of the Superbike World Championship.
The challenge included two tests on the runway with times measured at 400 and 1000 meters.
In the duel of the 400 meters the bike won (about 70 thousandths of a second difference), but the Starfighter won the duel of 1000 meters (about a second of difference).
