[AI] Atlantis

Atlantis is the fourth orbiter built for NASA for the Space Shuttle Program. It operated from 1985 until its retirement in 2011, completing 4,848 orbits and 33 missions, including the final Space Shuttle mission.

The appearance of this build is based on STS-27 (12/02/88) because I like the look of the mission patch. It carried a DoD surveillance satellite to orbit and during ascent, Atlantis experienced extensive damage to its thermal protection system, with over 700 tiles damaged and one missing upon its return. The crew thought they would die upon reentry, but there was not enough damage to critical areas of the heat shielding, as was seen later with Columbia on STS-107.

You can go see Atlantis on display at Kennedy Space Center :)
