DHC F/A-990 Corvo

Document I: Description

Document I.A: Synopsis

The F/A-990 is a large and heavy, multirole tandem-seater fighter developed by DHC for the German Luftwaffe. It is the corporation's fourth aircraft, and it is the the corporation's most expensive aircraft with the F/A-99R only second to it. However, it became the corporation's mainstream aircraft for the next two decades.

Document I.C: Design

Engines

As of late 2020, the DHC in invested in designing even more powerful engines. The aircraft was powered by a pair of DHC Wilhelm VII.ADG jet engines, which were more heavier than the pair of DHC Wilhelm IV.KSR engines used on the F/A-99R. However, the VII.ADGs were 2.75 times more powerful than the IV.KSRs, contributing to the F/A-990's seemingly ludicrous performance. The new engines can sadelt push the aircraft to around Mach 3.2 and rival the MIG-25 Foxbat's top speed, yet are still eerily quiet in their cruise throttles set around 5-15 percent, adding to the F/A-990'S stealth factor like from its predecessor.

Airframe

The F/A-990 combined the airframe shapes of all its predecessors to form a very sleek and streamlined design. The aircraft still uses the airframe innovations from its predecessor, but it had some slight modifications on all wings and fins to solve the buckling problem present on the F/A-99R. The aircraft's speed, added with its thrust vectors, makes it way more agile than its decently fast predecessor.

Landing Gear

The DHC also tried investing in creating custom landing gear for the F/A-990, only to discover that the gear was unstable due to the aircraft being two times even way heavier than its predecessor. This resulted to the corporation the standard landing gear sold in the market again, using the same suspension settings from the F/A-99R to accommodate the aircraft's heavy weight.

Document I.D: Armament

The DHC still used the same weapon loadout from the F/A-99R, however the Rivera Cruz unguided bombs were lengthened for more streamlining, and has only four Herschel AGMs compared to the six present on its predecessor.

Document I.E: Production

All the aforementioned improvements from the F/A-99R makes the F/A-990 an even more menacing foe both on enemy air and ground units alike, earning nicknames like the "Foxbat Jäger," "Schwarze Dämon," "Hit-and-Run," and "Todeswunsch." The aircraft is produced in larger numbers than its predecessor, with a total of 1535 units and counting with 142 in current active service in the Luftwaffe.

Document II: Aircraft Specifications

Document III: Weapon Loadout

The aircraft's weapon payload is specified below:

  • 2x DHC Wittelsbach MK.2R75 High Speed Cannons
  • 4x DHC Rivera Cruz Type 18 Unguided Bombs
  • 10x DHC AM-28 W.Richtofen AAM Missiles
  • 4x DHC GM-19 F.K.Herschel ASM/AGM Missiles
  • 2x DHC FGP-193R High Speed Miniguns

Document IV: Control Manual

The controls for the aircraft are specified below:

  • AG1 : Toggle Navigational Lights
  • AG2 : Jettison All Weapon Payloads
  • AG3 : N/A
  • AG4 : Toggle Thrust Vectors
  • AG5 : Toggle Carrier Landing Hook
  • AG6 : Toggle Chaff SET A
  • AG7 : Toggle Chaff SET B
  • AG8 : Toggle Chaff SET C
  • VTOL Down : Flaps
  • Brakes : Air Brakes
  • AG4 + Yaw : Horizontal Thrust Vectors
  • AG4 + Pitch : Vertical Thrust Vectors

Document V: Landing Procedures

The proper process of landing the aircraft is specified below:

  • Decrease speed to around 310 mph
  • Align aircraft to airstrip, and aircraft must be completely stable on its roll axis
  • If landing on a carrier, toggle AG5 to lower landing hook
  • Set flaps all the way down
  • Use brakes and trim accordingly
  • Upon final approach, decrease and maintain speed to around 290mph
  • If descending too sharply, push throttle upwards for a split second and idle throttle afterwards
  • Land aircraft with the nose angled 15 degrees upwards as much as possible
  • Once aircraft has touched down, hold the brakes until the aircraft comes to a full halt

CAUTION

DO NOT engage thrust vectors when taking off or landing, doing so will make the aircraft spin uncontrollably on its pitch axis.
