Question for VR users regarding extra switches

32.5k TheMouse  13 days ago

I am making another plane, which I want to have a VR cockpit. I want to make it as accurate to the original as possible. However, in the original cockpit, there are tons of switches, and dials and all that kind of stuff. Its easy to add enough dials to be accurate. However, getting enough switches is a challenge. Even on my most advanced builds, I only need a max of 9 switches (activate 1-8, and landing gear), cause I am horrible at variables and ft. So here is the question: is it bad for VR if you have a lot of extra switches, just for the looks? All the other stuff is there, I just would add extra. I would probably need to make it clear which switches are used, and which are just for looks. What would be the best way to go about this?
Thanks,
TheMouse

i usually(or used to anyway, back when i still make full planes) just place switches around lmao, but label and tooltip ones that has a use

Ok, I guess its time for me to learn how to use variables!

It's actually pretty easy to use variables for this, just type something into the switch in the input section, then type that same thing into the input section of something else.

I tend to make all my extra switches have complex functions (SWL-120 moment), but I'd say no, just make the functional ones more prominent and clearly label the functional and nonfunctional ones.

I saw that, and that’s exactly why I am asking this question. I love how it looked, but I want to make sure it is ok for VR users to use. Tag me if yours gets curated, and then I will definitely know.

@TheMouse Check my X-31 I just posted. I made it as accurate as possible, but put “no function” for the tooltips for extras. Then just add details over them, like text, and the surrounding areas.
