SimplePlanes Mobile Railway: New Train, New Station, New Scenery

48.8k RepublicOfCursedPlanes  5 months ago

Over the past month, a lot, I mean a lot, of things have been added to the railway map. I even made an entirely new train for the map (which I spent 1 week building and 1 week fixing its tendency to derail).

Now that I think of it, I really should've made more teasers earlier. Ah, whatever.

Anyway, here's a list of everything I've built (and changed) so far:

Hartsford

Opened up the roof. It's much better for taking screenshots now!

Grunwick

Architecture is similar to that of Hartsford's. However, an overhead bridge has been added, and the opposite platform has been built on a gradient.
The station links with Grunwick Railway Station (not playable).

Highway [Scenery]

The track segment between Meridian and Grunwick now has a highway right next to it! Makes for some great scenery if you ask me.

Hospital [Scenery]

Also near Meridian is a general hospital.
(advisory: NOT for bombing)

Rail Yard [Scenery]

There's finally a place for you to take screenshots of your freight trains (without it looking too awkward)! Also contains Grunwick Railway Station, which, as, I mentioned earlier, is purely scenery.
(I don't plan to add freight wagons on the tracks.)

Train Used: MRM19's WR model 23 with SPR Trucks

And now, for the best part...

Rolling Stock

A 3-car metro train, with full interior, walker and, for the first time, a driving cab!
It largely uses the same building techniques as my previous Alstom Movia C951, but I've now made it possible to walk between train carriages.

Additionally, the train has a working route map display which Quercon helped me develop.
How it works is that whenever the doors are opened, the light corresponding to the station you're at turns off.

And last, but definitely not least...

Logo and System Map

Finally, SPMR gets an official logo! Safe to say, I'm extremely proud of it.
It's inspired by the station signs on British railway stations. In fact, the font used here is the same as that used on the London Underground.

And yes, I got enough motivation to draw a full-fledged map of the entire Yeager Metro system.
Although SPMR only consists of the green (Hartsford) line, this was the system I conceptualised. Maybe other users will build the remaining lines in the future (I hope).

Yep, I told you there were a lot of things.

T to be tagged on SPMR, and

RAIN to be tagged on the train!

See you!

Forgot to say, the part count stands at just over 1700 (potato phone go brrrr).
The good news is that all the scenery is complete; the rest of the railway is underground. This means that the final part count will be about 1900 at the most.
The number of drag points have also been reduced to 0.

@MRM19 uhh... my map's kinda designed as a metro, so freight trains aren't exactly appropriate.
Do you have any experience with making passenger trains? If there'll be an official rolling stock for SPMR, I recommend having it fit the following criteria:
    - it can be any subway train from any era earlier than the 2010s. You can decide what kind of rolling stock to make.
    - it should have a fictional livery of the "Yeager Transit Company", with a stripe featuring the line's colour (hex #008B68).
I'll release SPMR Early sometime tomorrow, so you can take a look at it.

@RepublicOfCursedPlanes hey, would you be interested in me making some SPMR freight rolling stock? I’ve already done one just as an example. Also I can always change the lettering and color scheme if you don’t like it.

I was going to build another fighter after my last one is recently completed but now i guess im going to build an attack plane instead for reasons that is totally and completely unrelated to the hospital

@MRM19 the route map display’s controlled by only 1 button. It’s done with the help of a “counter” code that Quercon helped me make

@WaterFlavouredSpitfires same here, especially considering my country places a huge emphasis on public transport
