Sky Cup Tournament Guide

Dev AndrewGarrison  8.3 years ago

Featured in our weekly tournaments, the Sky Cup is only awarded to the best design in its class. A new champion wins every week. Design and submit your own plane to win the next Sky Cup tournament.

Each week, expect the unexpected. The Sky Cup hosts a variety of different tournaments, each with their own unique criteria. Your design must follow all of the rules. Any violation results in immediate disqualification.

Most tournaments can be classified into the following categories:

  • Prop Class. Propeller engines only. XML modding is not allowed.
  • Unlimited Class. All engine types permitted, but XML modding is not allowed.
  • Mod Class. XML modding and all engine types are allowed. Anything goes.
  • Car Class. No jet or prop engines. XML modding is not allowed.

Simulation Specifications

We simulate the Sky Cup tournament here at our office. Your design is tested against a plane from another random competitor. Both are controlled by AI, with the Physics Quality setting on High.

  • Each match has 3 rounds. Best 2 out of 3 will win the match. Cross the final ring to finish.
  • In the second round, both contenders will swap starting locations.
  • Failure to reach the first ring within 20 seconds will result in a loss.
  • If a plane crashes, the other plane will win as soon as it passes the crash location
  • If an entire match concludes in a draw, that match is considered a loss for both planes.
  • The winner of the match moves onto the next bracket of matches. In the end there can be only one!

Want to see your plane fly in the Sky Cup? Watch it live as we stream the video, or catch it later when we upload the entire tournament to YouTube.

Sky Cup Rules

  • Submit your own designs. Successors from a design of another player will not be allowed.
  • You can only submit one plane per tournament. Choose your best.
  • To keep your plane a secret, you may submit an unlisted plane. However, that plane will become visible to the public once the tournament begins.
  • Some tournaments may impose a cap on the maximum number of competitors. If that cap is exceeded, then a preliminary qualifying round will narrow down the top designs that will race for the Sky Cup.

Rewards

  • The winner of each match will receive a 50 point bonus.
  • Both planes that face off in the final match will a receive a 150 point bonus.
  • The Sky Cup champion will be awarded a 500 point bonus.

XML Modding

XML modding includes modifying fuel tanks, engines, part scale, mass scale, or power scale attributes in the XML outside of ranges that are permissible in the designer.

XML Modding is only allowed in the Mod Class tournaments. For any other tournament, all properties on the engines and fuel tanks must be confined within the normal ranges allowed in the SimplePlanes plane designer.

We consider it a serious offense to submit an XML modded plane into a tournament which prohibits them. Any violation will result in an immediate and permanent ban from all future Sky Cup tournaments.

Cheating is not a mistake, it is a choice.

Also, Is xml editing tire traction considered modding? Because tons of people who win tournaments do this and I am wondering if it is violation of the rules.
