The English name for the MiG-29 is "Fulcrum".
This is the official NATO reporting name assigned to the aircraft by Western intelligence during the Cold War. NATO used a standardized system for naming Soviet and Chinese aircraft, where the first letter indicated the type (F for Fighter) and a two-syllable word denoted a jet engine.
The name "Fulcrum" (meaning a pivot point or central support) has even been unofficially adopted by some Russian pilots due to its fitting description of the aircraft's intended role and design.
Different variants of the aircraft have specific NATO designations:
Fulcrum-A: Original production version
Fulcrum-D: Carrier-based version (MiG-29K)
Fulcrum-E: Upgraded multirole version (MiG-29M)
