Wikipedia
The Netherlands operated the P-51 Mustang extensively after World War II, first with the Royal Netherlands East Indies Air Force (NEIAF) from 1946 to 1950 during the Indonesian National Revolution, where the aircraft were used for ground-attack, escort, and reconnaissance missions across bases such as Semarang and Medan. After the conflict, many of the surviving Mustangs were transferred to the Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF) and served in Europe from 1947 to 1953, fulfilling fighter, training, and early Cold War air-defense roles. The Dutch primarily used P-51D-20 and D-25 variants, initially marked with orange triangles in the East Indies before switching to standard Dutch red-white-blue roundels. The Mustang remained in service until the early 1950s, when it was replaced by jet aircraft like the Gloster Meteor
